Established in 1982 by the United States Department of Commerce, the Tampa Foreign-Trade Zone is one of 18 zones in the state of Florida and part of a network of zones throughout 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The Tampa Foreign-Trade Zone is managed by the Tampa Foreign-Trade Zone Board, Inc., a non-profit corporation. The board consists of representatives from the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the Tampa Port Authority, the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
