General Purpose Zones
The Tampa Foreign-Trade Zone offers a variety of general-purpose sites throughout Tampa and
Hillsborough County. Facilities with more than one million square feet of warehouse space are
available for occasional continual use.
|
The Ben Atkins Foreign-Trade Zone site at Tampa International Airport is
adjacent to all airline cargo operations and is a convenient holding area for imported cargo pending
re-shipment, forwarding, examination or distribution.

Two areas in the Port of Tampa provide warehouse, cold storage, shipbuilding
and wharfage facilities. Vacant land is also available for development.
|
|
The Tampa Convention Center site provides a unique opportunity - exhibition
space for imported goods.

|
In addition, several vacant properties in Tampa and Hillsborough County have
been designated as part of the Tampa Foreign-Trade Zone and are available for development.

Subzones
In case the general-purpose sites do not meet the specific needs of your business, you may be interested
in pursuing subzone status. In special circumstances, businesses are eligible to have their primary
manufacturing or assembly operation declared a foreign-trade subzone.
A subzone is a special-purpose zone established as part of a foreign-trade zone for a limited purpose
that cannot be accommodated at an existing general-purpose site. Companies interested in receiving
subzone status must first complete an application process.
A subzone receives all the benefits of a foreign-trade zone, including the cost savings associated with
the deferral, reduction or elimination of duties placed on foreign goods. There is also the advantage
of having the subzone at your existing facility - no added rent, storage or transportation costs.
As a subzone, your company saves time as well as money because components can be shipped directly to
your facility, without having to first be entered into the U.S. market through Customs.
